Should defold have an asset store?

I know a lot of stuff is on github, but it’s hard to find and a lot of people don’t like giving out their IP for free. Should defold have an asset store where people can sell their IP to others like unreal & unity has?

If defold hosts it, they can make money from it and set limits on the overall price allowed keeping it fairly developer friendly. Plus assets that are engine agnostic can be hosted on it and defold could make $$$ from it instead of unity, unreal, and itch.io.

If I knew I could buy assets directly from defold which also supports defold, I’d buy from there first.

This is actually a topic which we have discussion from time to time internally. I personally worry about having to deal with other people’s money, refunds, tax declarations etc. I think it would be interesting if there’s an independent asset store with engine specific and engine agnostic content where creators can sell their assets and where the buyer can chose where a percentage of the profit goes.

I bet you could just contract the whole thing out. Let the person who runs it take a cut or 100% of the profits until $XXXX hits then defold gets some $$$$.

So they would deal with all the laws and income statements.

Or maybe reach out to itch.io and see if they can make a defold asset library. Where assets are marked for defold and bundled to work with defold.
