Problem using admob extension

i was trying out admob extension on my game but i keep getting this error: attempt to index global ‘admob’ (a nil value)
i followed the instructions on the readme as well. i included the zip file’s url as a dependency and fetched it. i got an admob folder in my project. i also set the manifest and other game settings. thanks

i’m using version 2, I haven’t tried on defold 1 yet, (my net’s busted right now, current alternative is too slow).

“The file ‘/dirtylarry/button.gui’ could not be found.”

Ok, perhaps the dirtylarry-lib has changed and the example project needs fixing.
But that shouldn’t break your first case of just building with the extension.

What platform are you building for?
In your first test, did you get a build error?
Linux isn’t supported yet I’m afraid, I’m working on that though (eta 1-4 weeks)

Just an idea I am throwing out there, but are there any files you need to include under custom_resources? I was trying to get an extension working last week in which this was the problem (with a similar error message).

Are you trying to package, or trying to run directly from dmengine as your target to an android device?

yes. i have a res folder that holds my image that i load at runtime. i set it as a custom resources/asset. is that what you’re referring to? thanks

If you are using the default dmengine, it won’t allow you to run it with native extensions. What you will need to do is build the package for android in debug mode. Move that apk to the device and install it. Once you do that, open the app, and let it run like you would normally with dmengine. Once you do this, the device should appear in the target’s list still. Build it to that target and it should run.

EDIT: to clarify, you are building your own android project as a package, deploying that to your device. Run your app, and leave it running, which will allow you to do remote debugging and everything else that the normal dmengine apk would let you do.

I created a package and installed the apk o my phone. its crashing on startup. i hooked up to android studio to get the error log.

sorry its a bit long.
btw, what I did was copy the admob folder and paste it to my project. then update the game.project, androidmanifest.xml, game.appmanifest as described on the github page.

i’m currently trying to follow the instruction completely. i copied the https://github.com/defold/extension-admob/archive/v1.0.zip to the my dependencies. and fetch libaries.
its still not done. I’ll post my results afterwards. thanks again.

I can’t tell much from the log you posted since there is a lot of noise with other tasks and programs interfering. The easiest way I have foudn for getting Defold-specific logs while debugging on an Android device is by using the adb command:

adb logcat -s “defold”

This is suggested on the Android development for Defold page here: https://www.defold.com/manuals/android/

This will filter Defold specific messages.

here’s an interesting error i got: WARNING:CRASH: Number of modules exceeds capacity

i’m trying to find out what’s causing that right now.

still stuck. i can’t create a bundle it just hangs. same thing happens when i try to create a bundle for the example project. (i’m on linux). does that matter? i’ll try on another os.

This is related to the crash handler not being able to store all of the crash data. It’s not the cause of your problem.

Please report this from within the editor Help->Report Issue

What’s codeload? Is that your username on GitHub or something?
