Make topics or posts visible for members only

I sometimes would like to ask stuff or share things that I would rather not have the whole world to see.
Would it be possible to add a feature that makes posts/topics visible to members of the forum only?

While I think it’s possible to create such a category, I’m a bit reluctant to do so.
The main reason is that we want the searchability of the questions and answers.
It is a great benefit when google search show solutions from our forum.

Perhaps if we can understand the motivation behind it a bit more, it will make it clearer to us?

If nothing else, you’re always welcome to send us a private message (you can add more than one recipient), when asking questions or sharing content with us (e.g. like a project). Not sure if that helps though? (The target audience is much smaller)

For a greater target audience, perhaps the Defold Discord server is an option?

Thank you @Mathias_Westerdahl!
My motivation right now was to start a nice venting thread about store policies for all the folks here that have been stung by them (a very civilized one, of course). And I would like to be able to share half-finished code or projects with all other members and not bother you devs only with it. Or ask potentially dumb questions without being know as a “raetia, the fool” all over the world. :flushed:

I understand the frustration. However, I don’t think anything constructive will come out of a venting thread. It it was a thread about any solutions to the problem, then it should probably be a public thread anyways.

Regarding venting, I personally find taking long lunches where I walk/exercise helps a lot with any stress. It has really helped during these last two years working from home.
(perhaps not an option for many, but still, I can recommend it)

I hope we can encourage more users to post questions here, as it’s a good way to learn.
We don’t think there are any dumb questions, we all have different backgrounds and learning a new tool takes time!

But I can also understand that the “lifetime” of such a post might not always be suitable.
Here I would take a look at the #code channel in our Discord Server, where there are various discussions/questions where users ask for help regarding their projects etc.

Hello again @Mathias_Westerdahl,
I understand your concerns and you are quite probably right. So, I think the way forward for matters that one likes to be kept semi-private is indeed to use pms to people who agreed to it.
And yeah, walking is great for letting of steam, or cycling which is what I do a lot - but at the moment, the weather is just rubbish here.

Thank you!

Brigitte
