Hello there people, great to meet you, I’m Jakebobcube I just joined the defold community recently and I looking forward to making lots of great games in defold.
Welcome @Jakebobcube!
Don’t hesitate to ask questions, share what you’ll build with us and if you spot anything not clear - let me know, I’m especially looking for feedback from newcomers! ![]()
Hey, I’m Erik. I’ve been diving into 3D the last three years with a beefed up version of the Quake engine, FTEQW. Might sound insane but it works really well for me. It’s under GPL though unfortunately so I’m looking at alternatives. Godot has too many modern trappings for my retro 3D stuff and I’m not big on the Godot/Unity workflow so I thought I’d try Defold. Heard good things : D
Hello Erik and good luck! Tell me, we’ll have a Quake in Defold!

(We have kind of Doom: Noname 2.5 Shooter (Open source)! )
Welcome! Check out GitHub - astrochili/defold-trenchfold: A toolkit to design a level in TrenchBroom and export it to Defold by @astrochili
Thanks both
Ooo didn’t realize there was Trenchbroom support, that’s awesome!
Hello, my name is Francisco, I’m from Chile. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to be part of this community. I hope to be able to make really good video games with Defold with your help.
Hi all,
after dabbling in Defold for the last 3 weeks and reading some in this forum to get a grasp on the concepts and intricacies I thought “what the heck, why not commit“ ![]()
My motivation is to get back into programming after it’s been more than a decade that I could call myself a programmer. And yes, I am old, ehhh, “seasoned and experienced”. The background has always been programming for/with visual output (GUIs, websites and -applications, small games, Demos etc.), including back ends. The reason for Defold was primarily to (finally) get my hands on and dirty with Lua and have an IDE/framework/engine with visual output., because functional, visual results drive my motivation.
After the “first” 3 weeks, a hunch of a game idea and a functioning component under my belt I like what I see as an “outsider“ with Lua and Defold. So I engage…
Cheers everyone!
Hi all, (cross-posting from the Discord introductions channel, in case there is non-overlap between the forum and Discord Defold userbase - please excuse the redundancy
)
Solodev here (SaaS-focused, gamedev is mostly recreational), exploring Defold for a long-term project I hope to release one day. Lua is my most fluent language, and I’m a huge fan of dialects like Teal, Fennel, and Moonscript, so Defold has natural appeal to me. I’ve explored many engines (including other Lua-based engines like Love2d, Lovr, Gideros, Solar2d, and Bitty Engine [a personal favorite for prototyping]), but Defold’s support for 3d, Bullet physics, and its emphasis on small binaries and full portability (including a first-class browser target, and consoles) have elevated it for me among the alternatives.
Outside of Lua, I’m very interested in Haxe, and make use of OpenFL and FeathersUI for cross-platform GUI applications and personal utilities. I’m also particularly interested in shaders and procedural generation, especially as it pertains to generative art.
The existing games and demos that I’ve seen from Defold are very impressive and very inline with my design goals - low-poly, gameplay-first design, low-barrier-to-entry gameplay. I pretty much have my 2d needs already met elsewhere, so I’m primarily interested in writing simple 3d games with Defold. I’ve had my eye on this engine for a few years, and have been pleased to see the advancements made with the engine pertaining to 3d.
I’m looking forward to learning from you all!
I’m Adam, I really like Defold game Engine, I’ve been playing around with many game engines, and Defold simply is a gift from heaven, it’s is now my number one for me (actually only one lol now), it combines power and simplicity, and the best part of this is the small size of the game after build (no I built nothing yes just testing al learning).
At first I found it hard to understand the messaging system, but after watching a video of Mikael Säker (kudos for your great method of explain stuff) I understood.
Thank you Defold team you guys are the best
Hello community,
I am Hydraware, an indie developer from Germany. I usually develop games in Godot, but I am gradually porting my work to Defold. The biggest reason for this change is the binary size; I just love it. While Defold sometimes feels a bit low-level, I find it to be a fair exchange.
I am confident that I can do almost everything in Defold that I have created in Godot so far. While I am still developing my current game in Godot, I will switch and port it once it is finished.
Every day, I am getting better at Defold as I prepare to port my games. Like many others, I wish there were more learning materials, but I know I just have to dig deeper into the manuals.
I will keep my eyes open for a small Defold game jam to finally make the transition to this gorgeous engine.![]()
See ya
Hydraware
Welcome both of you!
