Our Computer Science lead has asked me to deploy Defold to 20x PCs in two Windows computer suites (Windows 10). I have installed the latest version on a couple of student PCs. When other users login they do not have access to the Defold application. Can Defold be installed so all users of the Windows computer can access it?
Note that Defold has no installer, it is simply a zip archive with an executable and additional files.
Probably? If you can make the unzipped folder available to all users then I don’t see why it shouldn’t work. Where did you unzip the Defold executable?
I followed the instructions on the Installation page. The Extracted Defold folder is in C:\Windows\Program Files (x86). As I was logged in as Local Administrator, other user’s can’t access that folder (by design).
As you suggest, if I move the Defold folder to a shared drive, users with permissions will be able to access it. I will give this a try.
Yes, this should work like a charm. You should be able to run Defold from any folder where the user has read and write permissions.
What we’ve seen in the past is that schools usually have very strict network security where the Defold editor sometimes is prevented from accessing the examples, template projects and tutorials from the welcome screen of the editor.
Thanks, Björn, I will give that a try.
