As the subject says this is an old person issue. 
Is there any simple way I can enlarge the text of the script?
Any advice much appreciated.
You are not alone. 
There is: go to view, increase font size. Ctrl++ doesn’t work for me.

My view tab does not have the options below “Show Search Results”.

The options in the view tab show once you have opened a script in the editor.
And - just found out: on my mac, the keyboard shortcut does indeed work, not on Windows though. Funnily enough Crtl-- does - might it be my keyboard layout?
Edit: it is the keyboard layout - all works on querty.
