Defold vs Cocos2d-x vs Phaser

Hi, I just stumbled on this engine from google search. Seems nice but I wonder how it compares to other engines.
One of the best 2d frameworks right now I would say are Cocos2d-x and Phaser.
I like that this engine has lua scripting but cocos2d-x offers lua also, however no web deployment with lua on cocos.
Why should I use this engine over cocos or phaser? Can someone compare them please?
Do you have any benchmarks on performance?
Can I deploy to most web browsers with Defold while only using lua for scripting? Cause if that’s the case, then I’m sold if performance is reasonable.

I’m sure Cocos is great (there’s also Corona and a bunch of others) but have no experience with it. Phaser looks like a HTML5 only library and thus aims to be something very different.

Defold is a platform with strong focus on workflow with integrated editors, collaboration, true multiplatform targeting (including HTML5), quick iteration (hot reload, build speed) and great performance and low overhead on the developer end as well as on target. Defold tries to solve many aspects of day-to-day game development where the API:s is one part of a much greater whole.

Looking at the API:s and how the engine handles things, Defold is not object oriented in the same sense as Cocos (and many others). That can feel a bit alien and can take some time to getting used to.

As for benchmarks, can you describe your use case and where you think you might hit speed bottlenecks?

I was just wondering about performance in general since you don’t have much examples yet.
Anyway I tried “Crazy Sorting Factory” on mobile and it seems to load and run fast although would be nice to test a bit more complex game.
I guess best option would be to try to work with this engine myself and try it.
I entered email yesterday how long does it take to get approved, if ever?

Check out Blossom Blast Saga on the appstore. And keep an eye out for Hammerwatch.

Not sure how long you have to wait but it shouldn’t be too long,
