We have received a lot of requests for making our game available on Android TV. Is that something you are planning for including?
We have no current plans for that, but it shouldn’t be too much of a hassle once we look into it.
Any updates to that request?
I think TV with Android is becoming an interesting platform for casual gaming on the couch and Defold is perfect for such a use case.
Similar logic applies to the new Apple TV, though I understand there is more hassle to support that.
I haven’t heard of any updates to this topic. It’s always hard to prioritise between all the different improvements we can make to Defold. We debate the priorities of all the things we want to do almost on a daily basis, and currently Android TV support hasn’t reached high enough on our list.
On a related topic, are there plans to support the OUYA?
I tried to get the Ouya Development Kit working on Defold by manually modifying bundled apk’s as an experiment, but didn’t get much results.
Wasn’t Ouya bought and shut down? Or does it live on in some form?
It lives in a gray area. No new consoles are being built at the moment, but it was bought by Razer, which maintains the dev stuff and released its own successor console (although it is not doing that well right now)
There are some romantics still working on the OUYA platform and releasing new games.
Ah, I see. Well, my guess is that we will not put any effort into OUYA support unless Razer starts pushing for the platform (and they will most likely have a very hard time competing against the competing platforms of Google, Apple and Amazon)
Hey got a bit of a question that is along the lines of this.
Do you plan on supporting The Nvidia Shield TV and Amazons FireOS?
Just thought I would ask.
Hi HeadClot.
We just (last week) released on Amazon FireOS. So that one is supported
Hi
Any update on this request ?
This is a very old request and I don’t know if there’s any issues with Android TV. Have you tried running something made with Defold on an Android TV? Did it work? If not, what went wrong?
