It just not supported wayland compositor…
I tried to open from disk IN the Gnome Xorg graphics session, and Defold opened it!!!
My distro have a newest packages for Hyprland, for Gnome, for KDE Plasma 6… All This newest GUI is built on wayland compositor.
But the development of wayland began back in ~2016. Of course, not all applications support it …

Because it works more faster than Xorg …
so, would you like to start support for this the new compositor?
