I have been casually working on design docs for about a year, but haven’t really started implementing stuff until very recently. One could say that the GDC competition finally lit a fire under my and my colleague’s respective asses. The game is a focus of both of our undergraduate theses and we intend to finish a complete prototype that includes overworld and all gameplay mechanics in late May or early June.

Diyu is a mobile roguelike-runner with the Pac-Man mechanics and in setting of „hell“ from the Chinese mythology. The player passes the levels-labyrinths trying not to be caught by monsters, which differ from each other with the unique behavior. Unlike Pac-Man, the emphasis is on the frightening atmosphere: for example, the player sees the monsters only when they are in the field of view of the protagonist.
