RainCat: Sushi Rush!

About 8 years ago, when I was young and reckless, I found myself learning and building mobile games using Solar2D (Corona SDK back then). I even managed to publish 1 title to the Play Store - “RainCat”.
The concept was simple - you play a cat, which like most cats hate being wet, so your job is to avoid raindrops to beat your high score. Got mostly positive feedback from family & friends but eventually moved on to “the next thing”.

Since then I drowed myself in selling my own products/brands on Amazon. I was and still successful in doing so but as time went I felt something is missing (passion I guess). So, I recently decided to give game development a real try. After choosing Defold, it was time to choose my first project, and what would be better than a remake of my original title…

I present to you, “RainCat 2”:

– Now you are not only avoiding raindrops but also collecting sushi!
– All sushi rolls give points, but some come with negative effects (lose life, temp higher difficulty, etc’)
– Sushi collected will be used to unlock skins, and boosters such as cheese and umbrella (not implemented yet)

I have many ideas on how to make this game not just about high score and unlocking skins but I’m not sure if it’s worth persuing (an entirely new game after some market research might be a wiser approach).

I would love to get any feedback from you guys! I will be launching a “closed testing” in Play Store in a few days, let me know if you’re interested ( in helping me  )

I would make the rain drops bigger so they look more menacing.

I would make the cat able to jump and do some sort of backflip, in the air, in order to grab the sushi that have a rain drop right under. Maybe make this type of sushi more rewarding because it’s harder to get.

I would change the environment so it’s something urban. Having the cat running on top of a road drain would explain why the sushi dissapears when hitting the ground. Maybe the cat is in front of a restaurant.

I think the cat should have to avoid cars also.

I think it’s worth a prototype.

Thanks! I would def try some of those. Loved the environment suggestions. If they will come as improvements I’ll share results here
