Loving Defold—how to make it more popular?

Even though you probably get this a lot, I just want to say a big thank you to the developers for creating such a fast and performant game engine. As someone who used Unity+Godot extensively and also created their own engine, I cannot overstate how hard it is to create a good engine, and make the correct decisions about implementing it.

Defold should be much more popular than it currently is. I left Godot due to their build sizes increasing with every update, and was surprised to see Defold output 2MB clean Android builds.

Clearly I’ll be using Defold from now. If the devs can share an insight on what the community can do to make more game developers use it (they are clearly missing out if they haven’t even tried out) then that would be great.

Thanks!

You can help the popularity of the engine in many ways. Here are some of them:

  • Creating tutorials on Udemy, Coursera, Skillshare, and free tutorials on YouTube or blogs
  • Sharing your code on github whether it’s an extension, shader, or project
  • Participate in gamejam
  • Publishing your games on different platforms
  • Activity on the forum, discord and everywhere else where the engine is discussed
  • Organizing contests with prizes as @Pawel does for example
  • Translating documentation into other languages

Best publicity for Defold would be making hugely successful games with it :grinning:
