It finally came together. I make heavy use of editor scripts to make it work.
Basically if you’re more of an artist and less of a developer you can use this to create a metroidvania (or platformer) in tiled. It can use tilesheets or custom hand drawn art, the only limit is your artistic skills/abillity
.
If you’re a developer, this can jump start you to creating your own metroidvania/platformer.
I call it a microvania toolkit because the enemy AIs are pretty limited. Future release will upgrade the kit to a full-blown metroidvania with better boss abilities and enemies. Plus other unique options to make it your own. Also once you export the game to a defold only game, you can edit the code as needed because it becomes a defold only program. So that’s the best time to fix the menus and text screens to look like you want them too. The Metroidvania toolkit will have that customization built in, however, to get this out sooner rather than later…I scoped it down in features to release now.
Are there bugs? Probably :-)…if you find some please report on github so I can fix them.
I included 3 sample maps that you can use to quickly learn how the toolkit works. All with free redistributable assets.
So if you want to build your game in Tiled to easily incorporate tiles and/or hand drawn art this is the way to go. While I love defold the management of art assets isn’t the greatest. This bridges the gab PLUS incorporates easy ways to enable gameobjects in the game. Think of corgi engine but better
.
