Dmengine.exe has stopped working

Hi,

I was going through the beginning tutorial and when it had me select project>build and launch the window popped up and immediately gave me an error saying dmgengine.exe has stopped working. I am completely new, so I’m not sure if I did something wrong or not.

Thanks,
Nick

Which Windows version are you using? Could you please try this:

  1. Create a new project from the project dashboard using one of the templates (side scroller for instance)
  2. Open this project in Defold
  3. Select Project->Build and Launch

I am running Windows 10 and got the same result when launching a template.

Are their any steps I may have missed when installing the editor?

Hmm, I don’t know. I’m only working on Mac myself, but @sven is Mr Windows himself. Sven, do you have any ideas? Could it be the installation folder perhaps? Where have you installed/unpacked Defold? Does Windows have some kind of error console that you can inspect?

I’m not quite sure, I normally work on Macs myself, but am working on windows currently. I downloaded the editor and then extracted it to a folder on my desktop and launched from there.

Wow that’s some nasty error! I’m currently on Windows 10 and it (sadly) works fine here.

Does it print anything to the editor console before crashing?

Also, make sure to extract defold into a folder path without spaces, I have seen problems with this before.

Hey there I have the same problem

Windows 10

Tested path are “C:\DefoldEngine” and “F:\Defold” there are no spaces.

in the Console is nothing printed

any other ideas?

Btw. HTML Build work

Rohten

@Rohten: Could you please provide some more information about your hardware and software setup? What kind of machine are you running on? CPU, graphics card etc? Do you have a lot of other programs running? If so, could you try to shut down everything els? Any antivirus? Could you please check the event viewer (http://windows.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/open-event-viewer)?

We would greatly appreciate any additional information to help us track down this issue! Thanks in advance!

I have the same problem. It worked fine some days ago. I started with the tutorial and was able to build and launch the game. Today I wanted to continue the tutorial and added the character. Then I realized, that I can not launch the app anymore. The HTML build works fine.

I tried to create a new project from the dashboard as mentioned above. But the build faild too.

I’m on Win7 Pro. There are no errors in the console and problem tabs but some NullPointerExceptions in the Error Log. I used the export button in the editor to save the logs in a file, but I am not allowed to upload a log file in this post.
You can download the error log here: http://s000.tinyupload.com/index.php?file_id=09032662723652620119

Could you please try bundling a Windows exe and see if that works? Maybe try running Defold as an Administrator?

I can bundle a windows exe and it works without problems. But starting Defold as admin changes nothing.

Oh, ok. I restarted the PC and the problem is gone now.
Thanks for your answer and sorry for the false alarm.

Ok, good that it’s working again!

Got the same error “dmengine.exe has stopped working”.
