Distant, a frantically put together mess of a jam game

This is from a few months ago, but about two weeks after learning how to make games in Lua for the Pico 8, I wanted to enter a game jam and decided to use Defold because it seemed nice and didn’t require me to pick up a new language.

Joining a week long game jam only a few weeks into learning to develop games was definitely ambitious (and I knew that going in, of course), but with a friend signed on to do the visual assets, we managed to put this together in a week. Did the bulk of the code myself, and it’s a chunky, barely held together pile of half understood concepts, but overall I think it’s still fun to play and I’m fairly proud of it and myself.

So here it is, Distant. A very short puzzle platformer starring astronaut Willie, and ship crew member, Kat.

Cool, thanks for sharing. I saw that sound/music were included in the credits but I don’t hear anything after starting the game. I’m using Firefox and I see:

Feature Policy: Skipping unsupported feature name “autoplay”. lib.js:3:3975
Feature Policy: Skipping unsupported feature name “midi”. lib.js:3:3975

Otherwise the gameplay is pretty good for a first attempt!

Oh weird. That’s the first time I’ve heard of this happening!

And thanks!
