Defold x Gamedev.js Jam 2026

There is a bug at this level (hard mode), it never gives boxes. I had to restart level to play.

Ok, publishing my game earlier too:

:astronaut: Space Base Maintenance :rocket:

A sci-fi space base management game, where you build a colony on an extraterrestial planet and try to survive as long as possible, gather intelligence and sell it to Earth for credits to prolong the mission, but new buildings and repair the machines. During the mission some events may occur that will influence the base in a positive or nagative way. Brace yourself and play!

Controls explained on the page :joystick:

No music and sounds for now, but will add them soon, and will try to balance it further and fix some bugs

Thanks for the cheers!
I kind of made it so it feels like a game, but I had a full game mechanics I could not put in it:

  • I will abandon the autoscroll, let people move freely left or right (still a scroller thou)
  • when attacked, the dogs should be under an energy shield. The shield and the robot dog has health bars, if the shield is destoyed it is panic mode, then the dogs just runs everywhere and the cats with claws can grab and kidnap them. Sometime Claw cats also show up while in promenade just to kidnap the dogs, you must move fast
  • when you are walking the dogs, you can clean them poop to recover health between cat attacks. You must also find trees for them to make them pee.
  • a progression and score thing, so you start with 1 dog, then 2 then 3 etc…, maybe you loose some dogs in between. Each time you finish the walk for a dog you earn money, but if you lose it you must pay money…
  • missing sound, music, lots of explosions and particule effects.

I will add all of this, then I will be satisfied :slightly_smiling_face:
But never until todoy jam end

I have a last question:
The votes are until may I think, but can we still update our project on itch.io during this time? Do they record the version we submit, or is it blocked for udpate till the jam results?

If you want to participate in more challenges, the Wavedash challenge is really simple, I wrote a guide on how to do so, and the Github challenge is also simple - publish your code on Github and put the link there

Here’s my entry. Its a simple game of moving crates from one station to another.

And here is my thing. Overscoped underdelivered… I wasted so much time on the character animation and had no time to draw all platform and backgrounds. Meh…

At the end of level one run to the wall to go to the next level (no time to draw a door)

The gameplay: You have to do stuff before time runs out. Find some parts to move the elevator up until you reach the end level.

Here is my entry
Bolt Bucket

Unfortunately @Pawel just seeing your post on publishing on Wavedash, wanted to try that challenge but found the uploading difficult

Can you find your game?

Also, I would like to ask is there any good reason for Defold not being listed under the challenges? Not mentioned in the blog posts and recent emails. I just think it deserves some spotlight.

Challenge in this jam is in the higher sponsorship level package (some of the sponsors get the challenge, even though being in the lower tiers, but it’s perhaps them being long running sponsors of the jam). We will prepare and article for the blog (I wanted to include the winners of the challenge in it) and we will be mentioned in the future newsletters - we wanted to use it when we’ll have something interesting to share.

Nice picture! Yeah I found mine

I didnt have much time to play and vote for the game, but mainly because I have time while on the train but only can play with mobile…but I am a bit puzzled by the small numbers of games that are playable on mobile! Being a web game contest, I thought mobile will be a main target… but seems not!
I am happy to be on Defold, it is so easy to make a game with specific controls depending on the plateform/controller.
I try to make all my games usable with with keyboard/mouse or gamepad (so it works on my anbernic as android version) or on touch screen (being mobile android or html)

Ok it depends on the gameplay, since not every gameplay can be simplified for mobile, but I think this is worth the effort, and not lot of code to add virtual gamepad or automate some mechanics on mobile. Even if it is just for demonstration purpose on itch

Any thoughts about this?

I think most people just did not think about it in the rush at least I did not. Also did my character animation in 1080x1080 with the plan to resize the images before the deadline. Guess what, now my character is invisible on mobile!

Also, a lot of games I’ve checked have resolution issues (not fitting or cut), some not starting at all, imagine if there was a rule to have mobile controlls. Probbaly half the games will be unplayable then  BUT considering it’s web jam it’s really a missed opportunity for more people trying your game.

I found so far 16 games made with Defold:

If you’ll spot some more - let us know!

Edit: found 1 more (also, I’m not counting here mine, but there it is, so we have 17 games so far!)
