Defold Won’t Respond When Opening Projects

Hello everyone!

I first wrote about this issue on Discord, but I decided to post it here as well, thinking it might be easier to explain. If I find the solution, I’ll share it here so it can help others facing the same problem.

My Defold engine won’t launch anymore. When I try to open the engine with either an existing project or a new blank project, it just freezes. Shortly after, the app notifies me that it’s not responding.

This happens every time I try to launch any project—whether it’s a new blank project or one of my own.

That log is from august last year.
Do you have a more recent one?

Could you please try to do Project->Bundle and bundle to a Windows executable and try to run that. Does it start? My guess is that dmengine.exe is blocked by some antivirus or similar.

When you do Project->Build a debug version of the engine will start and it opens some socket connections that the editor can connect to.

I had the same issue after windows 11 update. Restarting my PC helped a few times, but when I returned to older version of windows (now it’s 23H2, 22631.4541), the problem was solved completely.

Hello, sorry, I didn’t realize. I only looked at the day and didn’t check the year or the month. But now everything works fine. I canceled a Windows update on my PC, and that was the problem.

Yeah, I tried to build a project, and the first launch worked without any difficulties. However, sometimes it would freeze and stop responding. But now everything works fine since I canceled a Windows update on my PC.

You’re right, yesterday night I canceled the Windows update because it was the only change I made on my computer before Defold stopped working properly. Since this morning, Defold has been working well again.
