Defold tip: random platformer SFX takes from one factory (8-Bit Arcade Vol.2 Lite)

I’m the creator. Small Defold-friendly audio habit I use for platformer feel — from a new 8-bit platformer SFX pack (full set 176 sounds at 48 kHz / 24-bit WAV + matching OGG).

  1. Keep one factory (or module) per action family (jump, land, dash, coin…) and put several takes as OGG resources with the same relative names you use in a prototype.
  2. On play: pick a random take, but skip the one you played last so landings do not machine-gun the same file.
  3. Map fall speed or dash charge to which land / dash file you request (soft / hard / heavy), instead of only riding gain on one clip.
  4. Same folder names in the free Lite and the full set, so a Lite prototype can swap files later without renaming paths in the factory.

Free Lite is 27 sounds (2–3 takes from each of the 11 folders of the full pack) — enough to wire jump, land, spring, dash, coin, 1-up, blocks, stomp, spike, pipe and three jingles:

Sounds are generated by code written with AI assistance. AI tool: Grok Bot coding assistant (used only to write the generation code; current version as of Oct 2026).

Happy to answer Defold factory / gain-group wiring questions on the random-take setup.
