Coming Soon...MicroVania Toolkit (beta)

Have you ever wanted to make your own MetroidVania, but don’t know what features make a great MV? I’ve been working on a MetroidVania toolkit to enable people to design their own MV using Tiled (a free app). Then Export to Defold. And with no custom code you can create your own MV. You just need to supply the art. However, for the coders, once in defold, you can customize it however you feel is needed to improve your game.

The beta for the smaller version will be out soon. I call it the MicroVania Toolkit as it won’t have the full gambit of features and templates to make a feature rich MetroidVania, but it will easily make a 2-5 hour MicroVania.

If interested in being a beta tester let me know. If you know the App Tiled, it’s a huge plus, but it’s not really a hard app to learn.

Tiled | Flexible level editor

If you’re really anxious to be a beta tester, download Tiled and start learning how to use it. I think I leverage nearly ever feature of Tiled to make this work. If you’re an artist wanting to make an MV, this should be your go to tool. If you’re a developer and don’t want to spend time creating the bones of an MetroidVania this can help jump start your project.

Currently looking for Windows platform testers primarily. Linux would be 2nd, then Mac. Of course everyone is welcome but I suspect there may be issues in those other two platforms that I haven’t tested for yet. Also I have linux and Windows, but no Mac to test on. So if you have a Mac and want to test, it’s greatly appreciated.

BTW: If you just want a way to use a feature rich tiled editor (like tiled) you can use this to create a map then export it to defold. It even allows individual images to be exported and then imported into defold, so you can pretty much design an entire tilemap (with a single tilesheet) PLUS individual images for backgrounds and set pieces which you are not able to do in Defold’s tile map editor. You can scrap the entire Platformer code in the toolkit and just use the Tiled to defold exporter and have a huge win in your development cycle.
