Our community members create astonishing assets, extensions and libraries for Defold that require knowledge, experience and a vast amount of time and almost all of them are released for free. We believe that sharing strengthen the community and helps us makes games that we all love to play, and making assets available for everyone for free lowers the entry barrier for anyone in the world.
We also appreciate and want to thank the creators for their hard work. Some authors utilise the many available solutions for sponsorships, donations, or purchases, but there was never a convenient way to showcase this on our Asset Portal.
We don’t want though to run any shop or anything like this, we don’t have resources to control the legal and finance burden of it (or we rather want to spend resources elsewhere, on Defold development), therefore we made a small step and added external actions buttons, that may be added to Asset entries.
When you submit asset via our website, you can now see additional fields regarding support options:
If you’ll add them, new buttons will be visible in the Asset Portal entry, we added it first to the amazing Graph Pathfinder by @selimanac which offers free version for all non-comercial projects, but if you use it for comercial projects, a single $10 fee is required by license.
This doesn’t solve the issue of private access, but is a small convenience and visibility option that might make it easier to include hybrid or paid assets entries to our library of over 300 assets. This is also a first test version for such a solution. Many providers have their custom support buttons, that me may add in the future. We are very open for a feedback and suggestions
