Here is the funny part:
I was born in Venezuela, so Spanish is my main language, but for the last 20 years I have been living in Portugal, so I speak very good Portuguese too.
I can try to target two possible language audiences but not sure how exactly, I don’t have time to produce a video on each language. I barely will have time to do one video a week.
So there are many things I have think before starting.
This can be an idea, I have seen some videos like that, but I think they can give me more work to create because I have to create the video in a specific way to allow to add voiceovers on top of it.
It is doable and can be a good idea, but I have to investigate how to do it.
I don’t have much spare time, and I am trying to do this in a way that doesn’t interfere much with life.
Yeah, just limit the scope to one, most comfortable for you language
Those are all just divagations, discussions for future I would say, we just grasped the topic do what you like and have fun with it
Alternatively, you can do it in reverse, first a written script in the language you’re more comfortable with, then the voice-over and after that use the audio as a director to record the video.
You could use this structure:
Divide the video into several small segments.
Start each segment explaining what you’re going to teach.
Demonstrate it.
Explain what you’ve done.
Repeat with every segment until the end.
This way, if you record in other language, you can trim or expand very quickly the footage or the audio in case the translation has length differences.
It’s a little bit more work but makes the whole thing scalable, manageable and look very professional.
That is the way to go! I always write up the script at first and then read it for recording. For tutorials I make (https://youtube.com/@unfolding_gamedev) I even record the presentations or tutorial sequences after I record voice - to match the visuals with what I’m saying at the moment
Plus when you write it down, you already structure it better, rewrite, improve. And when you read the script the video is overall more professional than yyy, eee, aaa, while you’re trying to find the words, even in native language
I regularly watch content on Youtube created by non native speakers, sometimes they have a very strong accent, still even those had thousands or hundreds of thousands views.
One of the reasons I am considering creating content in Spanish is because of my accent in english and lack of confidence but this is not the only reason.
I will do some test in English and Spanish, and choose the option I feel produces the best results for me.
I think there is a huge opportunity for Defold content in Spanish and I hope they get made. I’m a professional translator working in Spanish and English so let me know if you need any help… although if you’re working in English already I don’t know how much I could really do for you!
I was pleasantly surprised yesterday how much faster a project builds on Linux. I think that it was 2-3 times faster than Win 10. Around 1 second on Linux vs 2-3 seconds on Windows. It looks like at least half of that time on Windows is “opening” the game, as I could see that a new window appears but not displayed yet. Just a reminder how actually slow Windows as OS is.
I agree, I think there is potential for content in Spanish, and that’s why I had this idea.
I am still preparing everything. It will take some days/weeks until I have the first post and video, as I said before I plan to create a blog post/article and a video. I am going to follow the advice of @Pawel and @masterneme to make it easier.
I think that all the content will be in Spanish, and with a little bit of work maybe Portuguese too, but not sure yet, at the beginning is better to keep things simple, so just one language is good.
About English content, I still think that Spanish is better for me, and if I follow the advice given before, maybe in the future we can collaborate and you translate the videos using the script and do the voiceover? I understand this can be a lot of work, so let’s see what can I do in the next few weeks and months, and later we can see.
I feel that the thing that would make a huge difference would be automation in the IDE. The ability to easily add game elements, such as a background, a player,… to as game. That is a mouse click to add a standard implementation of a feature. Auto setup move controls, space bar to fire etc.
I already have a website “working” for the blog, still deciding on the theme, but I already have 1 - 2 in mind.
In terms of videos and content, I still don’t have anything, but I will let you know when the first video/article is created.
In other topics, I will be submitted to surgery this Friday. I was expecting this to be only in 10 - 14 days, but they decided to anticipate it, so I will be off a few weeks for recovery. If I have the energy, I will try to create some content, otherwise this will have to wait.
Anyway, I am working on this. I hope to manage it. I never did anything similar, but I feel really committed to doing this.
If you read the news today quite a lot of Unity users are looking for alternatives for Unity due to current events. I remember Defold made some waves when it was first announced but lately most people talk just about Godot and Unreal Engine. This thread has been an interesting read. First impression of Defold is that it is a clean solution for small mobile and web games. Not sure about the 3d features, though. Not sure if I’d even need them though.
Unity became famous thanks to social media, Defold should be promoted as having a lot of performance, since Unity is terrible with performance compared to Defold.
And then make daily videos, well done, hire an Argentine Youtuber that you know, pay a salary, upload daily videos…
and you will see how they will grow…
Defold, not even Ticktok has =(
I don’t want to offend you but it seems that you are too old to walk in this world.
They can monopolize future generations, but no.
SUMMARY: Social networks == More people == More money == more workers to improve DEFOLD,
