Unable to install Defold on Mac (DEF-1933)

Hi!

I’ve been trying to install Defold on my Mac today, yet every time I try to open it up, it states it can’t be opened. Because for some reason it identifies it as from unknown developer, which haven’t been a problem with other apps and softwares since they ask the separate permission for it, but this is something I haven’t seen before.

Given that I am quite new Mac user, is there something am I doing something wrong or what’s the problem?

You need to change your security settings to “Allow apps download from anywhere”.

Open up the ‘System Preferences’ app, then double-click on ‘Security and Privacy’. Under the ‘General’ section, check the ‘Anywhere’ option under “Allow apps download from anywhere”.

[Note that you’ll need to click on the padlock button (‘Click the lock to make changes’) before you can make this change. After making the change, you can click on the padlock button again to prevent further changes.]

Right click the app and click ‘Open’ from there.

This happens because the current editor app isn’t signed by an official Apple developer license; Apple likes to make it a pain to open unsigned apps to force developers to pay for a license. You’ll only have to do this once - after the first time you’ll be able to open it as normal.

Edit: looks like someone else posted while I was writing a response. That works too, it’ll solve the problem for any unsigned app.

We have a ticket in our backlog to make sure the app is signed properly: DEF-1933 Until then you need to do what @Bryan_Green or @Lukas_Palmer suggested.

I would like to add that once you’ve done this and started the editor for the first time you should change the settings back to Mac App Store and Identified developers.

Thanks! I was bit varied of using Bryan’s suggestion (because doi, I would have forgotten to change it back), but with this I didn’t have to go tweak things anywhere. :B
