Cannot Open Defold (SOLVED)

I just wanna put this out there, I am terrible at opening zip files. It seems like I always run into a million issues whenever I try to open them. I installed the 64-bit files for Defold and opened it in 7zip. I followed the instructions exactly as written on the website. I extracted everything. However, I ran into an issue when attempting to move it to the Program Files (x86). 7zip just pops up “not implemented” I don’t know what to do about this error, and I cannot find any help online. I cannot open the .exe either. Initially I got it to work but when opening the editor it seemed like half the program was missing. The project selection screen was not there, there were no tutorials. I selected the welcome page through the help tap but it just sent me to the website. I eventually got frustrated, deleted everything, and decided to restart. But now the .exe won’t open at all and I am still not progressing anywhere with 7zip. This is getting me angry to the point where I’m about to use all my savings just to buy a macbook because the installation process on windows is such a pain.
Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @chipmunk1202!

Sorry to hear you have such troubles with the installation.
I think we should be able to help.

What OS are you using? And what editor zip did you download? I’m assuming Editor 2?

When you say “opened it in 7zip”, do you mean you extracted the zip file, or just opened it in 7-zip?
You should extract it, and choose a folder to extract into.

I don’t recognise the error “7zip just pops up “not implemented””, so I it belongs to some other operation than the “extract” part.

I think Windows protects certain folders such as Program Files (x86) and does not allow many things, including unarchiving there. Can you try to unarchive Defold to a user folder, such as Downloads and running from there?

Also can you try running 7zip as an administrator?

Thank you both! I actually installed PeaZip instead and everything worked smoothly. I think 7zip is just a bad program, I’ve always had faults with it. I miss my unlimited limited time trial with Winzip :sob:
